Welcome To The Stewarton Drama Group Website

Stewarton Drama Group is a registered charity and is a member club of the Scottish Community Drama Association.

We have been going strong for 40 years now.  Each season our aim is to continue the tradition that our founding members established of bringing quality amateur drama to our loyal local audience.

We have our own premises, affectionately referred to as ‘The Premises’ where all rehearsals are held and which itself boasts a small stage; ideal for club performances for members and patrons.

The season opened with an informal ‘New Members & Patrons Open Evening’ in August, which saw several new members join the club and go on to give their debut performance for SDG later in the year.

2012-13 was a tremendous success for the Group.  The first performance of the season was the Pantomime ‘Sleeping Beauty’ by Dave Buchanan, which played to packed houses in December. Then after the New Year it was on to the group’s memorable production of the toe-tapping comedy ‘Stepping Out’ by Richard Harris, which delighted audiences in March. Finally, the season closed on a high with two performances of ‘An Evening of Comedy and Drama’ in May featuring 3 short one-act plays ‘Waste Management’, ‘The Stanley Parkers’ and ‘Excess Baggage’.

And the Group’s trophy cabinet is now packed with 8 new pieces of silverware thanks to the success in national drama festivals across Scotland of their full-length play from 2011/2012 season ‘Ladies Down Under’, their new one-act play ‘Waste Management’ which was announced as the 2013 winner of the East Kilbride Repertory Theatre Club Festival of One-Act Plays, and their one-act play ‘Excess Baggage’ which won the 2013 West of Scotland Final of the Scottish Community Drama Association One-Act Play Festival, going on to be placed 3rd overall in Scotland out of the 132 plays that entered the competition.

We look forward to an exciting and busy season in 2016/2017!
